Willa's first haircut!

On January 28, I decided to get Willa a haircut at a new kids' salon near us.  Her bangs were getting a little long for her glasses, and her mullet was getting a bit extreme, so even though I thought I would never 1) cut her hair anytime soon or 2) give her bangs, I ended up doing both.  Whoops!

Crewcuts and Pigtails, where I took her, is one of those places with chairs in the shape of cars and TVs at every station.  The theme that day was Mickey and Minnie, and I think the decor and the games helped her to relax and have fun.  I also gave her a lollipop left over from her party to help her stay calm and to sit still, and I think she did a pretty good job!  The stylists there are also very skilled with kids and went over and above for her, especially since it was her first time in the chair.  Overall, a great day!

Willa's Third Birthday ::snort::

This year, we had a Peppa Pig themed birthday party for our little three year old!  As always, I went way out with decorations and games, but this time I tried to keep the food simple, instead of with a specific theme.  I was only moderately successful with limiting myself, but that's ok!  I think this was the first year she could fully appreciate planned out games with prizes, so I amped it up a little in that department.  She had so much fun, and so did her friends!  We were also lucky enough to have my parents and Katie, Sahil, and Larkin with us to celebrate.  We are so blessed :-).  Here are the pictures, enjoy!

So I'm just about six months along now, but here's my belly shot at five months:

Definitely starting to feel big, and less limber!  I actually relate best to a certain round, cuddly wild animal that I saw while in DC recently:

I don't know what it is about this pregnancy, but I am not as comfortable as I was the first time around!  For now I will attribute it to just one instead of two yoga classes a week, but my ankles are swelling and my feet are spreading, which never happened with Willa.  I also have to concentrate harder before getting up or rolling over in bed, and I have a long way to go!  Crazy how different pregnancies can be :-).  Still, feeling good and happy to endure whatever I need to for little Cubbie!

Cubbie's first Networker Symposium

What a fun time I had at my eighth Psychotherapy Networker Symposium!  As anyone who knows me in my professional sphere can tell you, I am mildly obsessed with this annual conference.  It's held every third week in March at the same hotel in Washington, DC.  I have attended since grad school (2007) and only missed when absolutely necessary (ie, Willa).  It's like summer camp for therapists, where like minded people who live all over the country get together once a year and pick up right where we left off, learning, dancing, singing, and laughing at the antics of the Editor in Chief.  I love it!  Everyone always gets a sticker to indicate how many years they have attended, so of course I had to get Cubbie a "1."

Being pregnant there was so fun!  People let me go to the front of excruciatingly long bathroom lines, I got out of a couple of work assignments that would have had me on my feet all through lunch, and people were generally happy to see my bump walking around.  Fellow attendees of the "Shake your Soul" dance event were all impressed that I was Dancing While Pregnant, and asked lots of questions about whether Cubbie liked the music and dancing or not.  Made me feel very special!  Even though my ankles swelled and my feet have spread a little, I am so glad I went and had an awesome time!

A very Seuss week

Willa's school observed the week of Dr. Seuss' birthday in March, and each day had a different theme for how to dress.  And if you know me, you know I love a theme!  Here are the pics of my sweet little one celebrating some of her favorite books:

Monday was wear green for Green Eggs and Ham Day.  Luckily we still had her Chlorine costume from Halloween, which was green from head to toe!  I added the white vest for a little contrast (white of the eggs anyone?) and she was quite a hit!

Tuesday was crazy socks for Fox in Socks, one of Jeremy's, and therefore Willa's favorites.  We had fun shopping for silly socks the night before, and she ended up picking these bunny socks from the Dollar Spot at Target.  That's my girl!!!  I layered them over some leg warmers for an extra crazy twist, and she rocked it out!

Thursday was her third day at school, and Cat in the Hat day.  We found this headband at Party City, which was a total boon because she normally isn't big on hats.  She loved the black and white striped shirt, but refused the red ribbon bow tie.  Ah well.  I guess someday she'll be up for all my crazy trimmings!!

It was quite a fun week, just like any excuse to dress in costume every day!

It's a girl?!

I realized that I haven't done a post about my reaction to Cubbie being a girl, nor have I posted her sonogram picture, what a shame!

So, my first reaction to the gender news was surprise, to be honest.  So many people had been guessing boy, and all the Old Wives' Tales pointed to boy, that I thought surely I must have a little XY in there.  But nope, Jeremy was right, we are going to be a family of girls!  After the initial shock, I was just happy.  I knew that Willa would be excited to have a sister, and on a more shallow level I was excited to think about all the cute outfits that I was sad to have to box away that will get second life with this little lady.  I also don't have to change the nursery, just fill in a couple of gaps where I removed stuff for Willa's new big girl room, so I have a lot less to prep this time than the first time!  Overall though, I was just happy that this little girl is just as "textbook perfect" as Willa was at this stage.  How blessed we are :-).  Fun side note, the sonographer went on and on about her "pretty heart" because of how well she was aligned to image all four ventricles.  Instant theme idea for me!!  I loved the heart idea so much that I ran out and bought a ton of Target Valentine's stuff (all on sale, thanks to it being Valentine's Day when we found out), so now she has a little unique motif in the nursery.  I'll post pictures when it's all done!

She kept her hands in front of her face for most of the time, so this was the best shot that we got of that little mug.  Can't wait to get a full view of the real thing!


I also forgot to post this, the way I shared the news with my coworkers.  I colored in the "she" part of the label of a Hershey bar, then wrapped it in paper.  That way people could check even if I was away or in session, and it was a fun little reveal!  Thanks to Pinterest for the awesome idea!
