First day of Kindergarten
And she's off! Our girl took her first step into the rest of her life today, starting Kindergarten at Irving Park Elementary with Ms. Giard. She was so excited about starting school that she literally skipped on our walk (yes, we can walk, I am STOKED) and exclaimed, "Look at all those flowers, the world is like a rainbow!!".
There were quite a few people lined up along the walk to school since it was the first day, including some local high school basketball players. They cheered and clapped loudly and I braced myself for Willa to freak out, but she totally didn't! One guy got on her level and asked for a high five, which she gave him, then all the rest of the boys held out their hands and she high fived everyone! I was very proud.
She was most excited about the school breakfast, which was sugar on sugar on sugar. She fell in love with the Scooby Doo graham crackers and chocolate milk, and settled right in. I decided to talk to her about healthy food choices tomorrow, and enjoyed her smile.
She told me that she made a good friend in a girl named Olivia and that there were no bullies (huge sigh of relief). She also comforted a little boy that was crying at his parents' departure, which made me very proud.
Overall she had an excellent day, and bounced away at the end of the day saying she couldn't wait to go back!
She grows way too fast!!
